Halloween is over and the cooler weather is upon us; the entire staff at Junk Studz is looking forward to Thanksgiving! We have a lot to celebrate this year; we’ve been blessed with good friends, faithful family and customers who trust us to help them declutter their Southern California homes in an earth-friendly way.
Hosting Thanksgiving dinner is a big undertaking and you can feel a little overwhelmed if you don’t have a plan in place to manage all of the things that must get done. The following tips will help you prepare for Thanksgiving Day and enable you to relax and enjoy your time with family or friends.

Preparing Your Home for Thanksgiving

Getting ready for Thanksgiving is typically hectic and, depending on how many guests you invite, can be a major undertaking. But with a little pre-planning, you’ll be as prepared as possible for the day. As you go about cleaning your home for the holiday, be sure to set unwanted items or clutter into a bag or box marked “Junk Studz.” We’re proud to be the junk removal service Orange County, Irvine County and San Diego County residents trust when tidying up their properties.

Cookware, Dishes & Table Linens
A week or more ahead of the big day, wash and iron your Thanksgiving linens and dishes, including the tablecloth, napkins, holiday dishware and silver. Be sure your platters, serving dishes, utensils, large roasters, pots and pans are clean and in good working order.

Organize Your Kitchen
A clean and organized kitchen will go a long way in lowering your stress level and making your guests comfortable. After all, this is the room where food will be handled and prepared. Take a few minutes to clean your cabinets; restack pots and pans and sort through those crazy plastic containers and their lids. If you come across duplicates or items you no longer use, Junk Studz can take them off your hands. Next, scrub your stove, sink and countertops and clean out the fridge to make room for the extra food you’ll need to store.

Clean the Guest Quarters
If you have guests staying over, give the guest room a thorough dusting and vacuum or sweep/mop the floor. Put clean sheets on the beds and freshen the blankets. If you have a guest bath, be sure it is clean and stocked with the items your company will need, including personal hygiene products and clean towels. This can be done a few days to a week in advance.

Cloak Closet
In the days or weeks preceding your get together, tidy up the closet where guests will hang their coats and be sure to have enough empty hangers on hand. Consider packing up extra or unwanted outerwear and Junk Studz will see that they are donated to a good cause. You may wish to hang an air freshener if the closet smells stale.

Living & Dining Area
Dust all surfaces in your living room and dining room and pay particular attention to any “Victorian lace” (cobwebs) that may have collected on the lights or in corners. Vacuum furniture (including under the cushions) and carpets, sweep and mop. The night before, wipe down your dining room table and chairs, add additional leaves and set the table with linens, dinnerware and centerpiece. If you find that you have large or unwieldy pieces of furniture that no longer meet the needs of your family or are too big for your space, the Junk Studz team can quickly and safely remove them from your home for you.

Bathrooms
The day before Thanksgiving, clean all the bathrooms your guests will have access to. Scrub down the toilet, sink and bathtub/shower. Polish the mirror and faucets. Sweep and mop floors and freshen rugs. Double check your tissue and toilet paper supplies, hand soap and towels. Do you have more towels and washcloths than you can use? Junk Studz is set up to ensure that these extra, still usable, items go to people or programs who have a need for them in Orange County, Irvine County or San Diego County.

Windows
If time allows, wash your windows so they are sparkling and streak free. If you simply cannot fit window washing into your schedule, filter outside light with a shade and light candles to add a cozy feel to the room.

Entryway
Shortly before guests arrive, sweep or vacuum the entry and put down fresh rugs.

Don’t Forget to Be Thankful!
While the above tips will provide you with a game plan to declutter your home in time for Thanksgiving company, it’s important to remember that your family and friends aren’t coming over to critique your housekeeping skills ─they, like you, simply want to spend time with people they love, giving thanks for the gifts they’ve received. So, relax and enjoy the day. While everything may not be perfect, your home is still an ideal place to make memories.
